The 5-Day Fitness Formula: How to Stay Fit This Summer Without Living at the Gym

Life is busy, and finding a fitness routine during the times that seem the busiest are where people often get derailed or fall off entirely.

This summer (and really, maybe, forever), when life tries to deter you from staying on track, we hope to shift our mindset towards “something is better than nothing.”

For most of us, summer around here calls for more time outside, extra hours at the beach, and (for many of our seasonal workers) more time at work!

We believe in a holistic approach to well-being that fits seamlessly into your schedule and strengthens your connections.

Our mission is to empower you to embrace a balanced weekly fitness routine that combines focused gym work, joyful outdoor adventures, and convenient at-home sessions.

We’re shifting the paradigm by changing our way of thinking about fitness:

What if instead of beating yourself up for NOT making it to the gym, you set a more realistic goal for yourself? Aim to get into the gym at least three days per week, but make a plan to get moving five times a week.

We want to help you do this, so we’re introducing our Free Fitness Calendar.

Here’s what we’re suggesting:

  1. Set a non-negotiable goal to get to the physical gym three times a week until Labor Day. Schedule appointments around class time, put it on your family calendar, and make it a weekly priority to get it done!

  2. Meet up with us one time per week outside to enjoy the beautiful place by the sea that we all get to call home.

  3. Do one at-home workout through Harpoon @ Home (more on this next week) or with your family doing family things like mountain biking, paddling, hiking, etc.

Here’s why this balanced, fun, and realistic approach to getting and staying healthy can be such a game-changer for you this summer:

1. Get Into the Gym

The gym is your dedicated space for focused training, where you can push your limits, refine your technique, and leverage specialized equipment, and get coaching.

Committing to three days a week here at Harpoon Fitness provides the perfect foundation for:

  • Strength Building: Access to weights, machines, and structured programming.

  • Expert Coaching: Our certified coaches are here to guide you, ensure proper form, and provide individualized corrections and feedback, helping you maximize results and minimize risk.

  • Accountability & Motivation: Being in a dedicated fitness environment, surrounded by a supportive community, can significantly boost your consistency, drive, and results.

These sessions are where you build the core strength and endurance that support all other aspects of your active life.

2. Get Outside

Fitness isn't just about barbells and sweat; it's also about experiencing the world and connecting with those you love.

Dedicate one day a week to an outdoor activity with your family and friends.

This could be:

  • Meeting up for an event on our Free Fitness Calendar

  • A brisk walk or hike along Fisherman’s Walk

  • A bike ride around the Nubble loop

  • Playing a sport like beach volleyball, frisbee, or pick-up basketball

  • A fun afternoon with the kids at Short Sands playground

  • Mountain biking Mount A or road biking along Route 1A

  • Stand-up paddle boarding in many of our open waters

  • Mowing the lawn with a weighted vest on (am I right, Kelly?!)

Moving your body outdoors offers incredible benefits for mental well-being, stress reduction, and a refreshing change of scenery.

Plus, sharing these experiences with loved ones makes fitness a shared joy, strengthening bonds and creating lasting memories.

Don't forget to check out our Free Fitness Calendar for opportunities to bring your friends along!

3. Harpoon @ Home

Life happens, and sometimes getting to the gym isn't feasible. That's where the beauty of Harpoon @ Home comes in.

Dedicate one day a week to a session you can do right in your living room, home gym, or garage. We’ll provide the workout, you provide the effort.

This offers:

  • Ultimate Convenience: No travel time, no gym bag packing – just clear out some floor space, turn your phone notifications off, and turn up the music!

  • Flexibility: Perfect for those days when your schedule is packed or you just need a quick, efficient session.

Harpoon @ Home ensures you maintain consistency, even when you can’t physically make it in!

Embrace Your Balanced Journey!

This kind of balanced approach to fitness isn't about perfection; it's about consistency, variety, and finding joy in movement.

Integrating three gym workouts, one outdoor adventure, and one at-home session creates a sustainable routine that supports your physical health, mental well-being, and social connections.
